The Origin of CVMA®
1. A Search for Brotherhood (Late 1990s)
Combat veterans—especially from Vietnam—were looking for camaraderie and purpose after service.
Many shared a love for motorcycle riding, but traditional motorcycle clubs didn’t feel like the right fit.
2. The Internet Brings Veterans Together
Veterans discovered an online group called the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Club (CVMC).
It promised brotherhood, honoring fallen service members, and connection—everything they were seeking.
3. The Harsh Reality: It Was a Scam
The CVMC turned out to be an internet scam, taking money from veterans without delivering a real organization.
Some members even faced serious safety risks wearing unauthorized motorcycle club patches.
4. Turning Setback into Purpose (The “Original 45”)
About 45 veterans stayed connected after the scam was exposed.
Instead of walking away, they chose to build something real—an organization rooted in integrity and service.
5. Becoming an Association (Not a Motorcycle Club)
They intentionally formed an association, not a traditional MC, to:
Avoid “prospecting” requirements
Be more inclusive and mission-focused
Gain broader acceptance in both the public and veteran communities
6. Creating Their Own Identity (2002)
After failed attempts to affiliate with outside organizations, they decided to stand on their own.
They developed:
A unique patch and identity (black & gold with the skull/spade “Skully”)
A clear mission centered on veterans helping veterans
In December 2002, the CVMA® was officially formed.
7. Mission and Growth
What started from hardship became a nationwide nonprofit organization.
Today, CVMA® focuses on:
Brotherhood among combat veterans
Serving and supporting veterans in need
Local impact through community-based chapters
